The Tenth Insight by James Redfeild. I read the first one and I stumbled across the second one by accident, so that's what I'm reading now. V.C. Andrews' next book isn't coming out until Autumn.

Well around Autumn you're going to be reading a lot of textbooks :-p so it's going to be here sooner than you think.
I've read a bit out of my 100 vampire stories book. I like them and they're short enough so you can read a few before you hit the hay.

You know, I've never realy gotten into vampire fiction or any of that stuff. I was thinking into looking into some of those "darker" things.

I've finished a Nora Roberts book(yeah, fluffy, but sometimes fluff is good)... and The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton. I always pick a classic novel(infact I still have to start on the Hunchback of Notre Dame and Les Miserables) to read during the summer just to say I've read them. I also do that with movies, too.
I don't know if I liked The Age of Innocence very much, just like once I finished Gone with the Wind, I hated it. They both took forever for me to finish, and I"m a fast reader. I'd put them down for a few weeks, pick them back up-then by a month or so I'd finish it. It was a real surprise for me, because I had liked Gone with the Wind the film version. But, once a character joined up with the KKK I just couldn't finish it. And couldn't quite understand why the whole story was loved in the first place.

I never read it and I've been asked a lot of times if I've read the book b/c of my name. And then people are like, "Oh, you've got to read it." And I stand there smiling like...yup...sure... lol. When so much hype is around a book, I wonder whether I should read it and be disappointed or what...

I never liked the film for Scarlett, I liked the film because of the sweet character named Melanie who was good to people. Although I will admit the costumes are just gorgeous, especially Scarlett's. And that Vivian Leigh was a very pretty woman.
I think, especially the book and film are a dissapointment in that there is not an accurate protrayal of slavery-the African American characters never mention having to go through it, there's no real resentment, they are loyal to Scarlett and to the other main characters. I don't understand that.
I have a real problem with movies about the Civil War. There's few at all that want to mention that part of the war. IT mostly deals with the battles, and the women are so sappy.(I mean what on earth did they do when their men were gone? This too gets left out in movies) With the exception of Cold Mountain, maybe. And I'm still holding out for a movie about the Underground Railroad.
I too kinda get fed up when the subject of Civil War movies is brought up and they immediately mention Scarlett. Is this the image that everyone wants to have of that war? I really didn't think you were named after the film though..but I'm sure that must be annoying.

No I wasn't named after the film. In fact, this wasn't supposed to be my planned name at all. I was actually supposed to be named Christina. But my mom heard all my crying and said, "That's my Tara" and my nana was like, "Tara? I thought it was Christina?" And that's how my name came to be. .... I asked if she saw the movie before that or read the book and she said yeah and that she liked it. But naming me Tara wasn't on the list...lol Now I'm thinking to steer away from the movie. Can't stand to see my name used in vain. lol

I'm reading Mary's Place in Christian Dialogue, a collection of papers from leaders of different Christian groups. Also, Fr. Frank (my spiritual director) loaned me a similar book today called A Protestant Pastor Looks at Mary by Charles Dickson (who is Lutheran, I think).
Anyway, the reason for the focus on Mary is that the Church is celebrating a triduum to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I have found that I have an affinity for Carmelites (such as St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila), so tomorrow I plan to go forward to receive a white scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
(It will be the second Catholic ceremony -- other than receiving blessings at Mass -- in which I've participated. The first was the veneration of the cross on Good Friday.)

That's neat that your mum just thought of calling you that. My name comes from a movie named "Ice Castles" about a skater(named Alexis/Lexie, but my name is just too popular now for my liking, to be honest) who has an accident and goes completely blind...wants to learn to skate again and then does. I didn't see it until I was a teenager. At first they wanted to call me Naomi. I'm kinda glad I'm not because although the name is very pretty, it just doesn't fit. Some older folks think my name comes from some soap opera, I forget what it was named, it was in the 80s, but the woman was not very nice. LOL so I kinda sorta sympathize. I don't want to discourage you from seeing the movie if one day curiousity gets the cat(Gone with the Wind, I mean), I just wanted to give my opinion. Which are like butts, everyone's got one. I'm glad that you're getting to go, Diana. What is a white scapular?

Actually I was wrong... it's a brown scapular with a white ribbon. I've posted a little bit about it in the Catholicism forum.

Haunted by Heather Graham. I figure I'd take out a fiction book just to relax a little. I've fallen asleep a few times with the book. I'm about 60% through...maybe I can attemtp to finish it tonight. ;D
