Okay... does anyone have a problem with the word d-a-m-n? (spelled like that b/c of censor) The reason why I ask is b/c sometimes we mods can't make up our minds on which words we should censor and which ones we shouldn't. Right now, that one is. I don't take offense to it. I use it a lot and most of the time in a joking manner.
There are some other words, but I'm too lazy at the moment to go check them out. lol (that's sad)
Oh yeah, and is there anything you want censored or you see around the forum that should be censored?

No... though there are a couple of words that I'd love to be able to use without them being changed, specifically u-s-e-r and the name D-i-c-k (short for Richard).

Just keep the few really offensive ones censored. If a word is used in an offensive manner, I'll do my own censoring of it.

Hmmm, well the only the only thing I mind is when the censor picks up perfectly clean words and thinks they're dirty.
D-a-m-n should be ok in my book, especially since it is used in some religious texts.

you might have noticed me saying stuff like: shít, fúck, twát etc. - is this ok? cos to me it's just the same as saying sh*t, f*ck, tw*t, except it looks a bit more like original word what's the problem the censorship is meant to solve - is it to stop people reading offensive language or is it so that you can access the website from school computers (which often block pages containing swear words)? if it's the former i might stop doing the í, ú and á things, but if it's the latter then i may just continue

The idea is that this is a religious message board and we want everyone to feel welcome here. So please just let the censor do it's thing.

Well, some words like damn and ass should be let go because they are used in the Bible and that's a religious text. But I think other offensive words are okay to have on the list.

To an extent I agree, but then I also disagree. I believe it is dependant upon the intentions of usage. I am fairly certain that many of those who do not mind the use of the word dam n would get rather upset if the word god were to be in front of it. My parents used to say that we can only use the words that apper in the dictionary. Well, we found a dictionary with the words she did not like (I am sure you all can figure out which words those were) included. So the point is, I know it's about time They are just words. Nothing more, nothing less. The taking offense is all in the person hearing/reading the words. Since I have yet to find any sacred text that presents a list of words that people are not supposed to use... And when the Bible speaks of cursing, it is NOT refering to the use of certain words. It, the Bible, is refering to: It was not until much later that they added: [/i]. A censure, ban, or anathema. 6. Slang. Menstruation. Used with the. [/ul][/quote] edited to fix coding

Words have more power than you give them credit for.

I hate censorship. Believe me, I'm generally of the attitude that if someone is offended by what I say or do, that's their business and I'm not going to change to accommodate them. However, when you are running a message board that welcomes everyone and in return, claims tolerance, you must realize that a level of political correctness will have to be adhered to.

can't people just learn to tolerate my coarse language? it's not like i'm being abusive to anyone, i just swear every now and then and i like to write how i talk ... don't worry, i know what you mean, some people will be put off when they see coarse language, so i'll keep a lid on it if you insist

Words have more power than you give them credit for. No they don't. Words have no more power than the person hearing them gives them.

You've never heard of a person's reputation being damaged by things they haven't even heard?
