just something that's been in the news the past couple of weeks - Malcolm Glazer, the american tycoon who owns the Tampa Bay Buccanears American football team, has just taken control of Manchester United football club ...
Man Utd fans are deadly opposed to this, for some reason, but there is growing concern about how intends to pay back the £540 million debt that he incurred to buy the club.
some people think he can only afford it if he sells tv rights to man utd games to countries in Asia, which would cripple the rest of the league who depend on Sky Sports' money in buying the rights each year (worth about £17 million per club per year)
others think (and this is why i posted on here) that he's going to put the Buccaneers up as collateral (or security, if you want to use the english legal phrase). the buccaneers are valued at £421 million, and the manchester united stadium (as well as players etc.) would no doubt be enough to fill the debt after that ...
any of you heard about this ocross the pond?

of course, it could all work out fine and Man Utd will become the best team in the world ... but it seems very unlikely that Glazer's in it for anything other than personal benefit (unlike the owner of Chelsea FC who won the English Premiership this year). this sort of thing has been seen before and it always leads to disaster f or the football club, though before it's always been smaller teams and the affect on the rest of the teams involved in the league hasn't been too drastic ... but this could spell disaster for all but the biggest English teams
personally i think it would be funny to see the English Premiership crippled, but that's cos i hate english football fans (on the whole they are incredibly arrogant and deserve something like this). i would feel sorry for the man utd fans that it had to be them, but still ...
