This has happened a few times now and some people are throwing fits over it. While I personally like the Bible better does it not make more sense to have someone sware an oath on a book they think is holy than one they care little or nothing for? (though if someone wants to use the TV guide or a playboy I would get upset)
Last I checked in this nation you can have any religion you want.

I agree teancum, it does make sense and it is something I've pondered at one point myself. I mean, a non-believer can take oath under the bible and lie simply b/c they do not beleive.

If you are referring to Keith Ellison, D-Min, and the controversy over his being sworn in over the Koran and not the Bible: Officers of Congress are not required to swear on any book, be it the dictionary or the Bible. Sometimes they pose for photos with a book, but it is not part of the swear in process. All they are required to do is raise thier right hand, and swear to uphold the Constitution.
