Imagine if the bombings happened 1 day earlier London would have lost their bid to host the 2012 Olympic games! It would havbe gone to Paris instead.
So I suppose we were lucky in that respect.

which "we" are you referring to - london, england or britain?
cos i'm not sure the scots (who will be taxed just as much as the english and the londoners) will see much benefit from the occaision ...

with all due respect I don't think you have any kind of comprehension about the amount of Taxes Londoners already pay. In London we pay council taxes and the amount you pay is dependant on your property value most people in my area pay £2000 plus, just on council taxes plus theres other taxes that your probably aware of so I wont go into any detail about them. But I think its time London got money from the rest of the Isles finally! I mean in the past Londoners pay alot of taxes and our money goes to these unemployed northerners who spend the money we give them on going to the pub everyday and getting drunk. Also our money goes to regeneration projects going on in the north. littlepea you should be happy that the frogs aren't hosting the games

to be honest i hate the english more than i hate the french - auld alliance and all that (but don't worry, i'm not really racist ) the scots have been taxed for the construction of the millenium dome and wembley (which will be England's national stadium, not Britain's), but did you have to contribute anything towards the scottish parliament or the regeneration of hampden (Scotland's national stadium)? fair enough it was a shambles, 10 times over budget and looks like a piece of poo (Holyrood, that is, not Hampden), but still ... in principle i guess it makes sense - the UK is hosting the olympics so everyone in the UK should contribute to getting the venues ready - but it still seems a little unfair. if Europe were hosting some major world event where most of the venues were in France except for one event that would be in, say, Manchester, and another one or two elsewhere on the continent, would you feel happy if the EU forced you to pay taxes to fund that? PS. why is the olympic team always referred to as great britain? do athletes from northern ireland compete for great britain or for ireland? cos technically northern ireland is a part of Ireland (as in the island) but not a part of Great Britain (which only contains Scotland, England and Wales). PPS. what do you think of my avatar? it's the scottish version of the union flag in the 18th century before Ireland was part of the UK - it has the st andrew's cross on top of the st george's cross. i could understand why some people might find it offensive, so i'll consider changing it if you are one of them.

Yeah little littlepea I understand where your coming from. The UK also like to waste alot of money. My older brother was doing this debate about the Millienium dome he said the money that was spent could have built several hospitals. He won the debate but lost in the finals (it was about sport and he's not to knowlegeble about sport)
The official title of the UK is: 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland' I don't know why we don't give Northern Ireland back to Ireland but I thought alot of Nothern Irelanders do actually want to remain part of the UK but obviously some do not hence the IRA.
At first glance I thought your avatar was the union jack but I just realised that when you remove that white cross in the front of your avatar it actually is the same flag as the Icelandic flag.

it's nearly the icelandic flag but the cross would have to be off-center like the other scandinavian flags. it is a scottish flag of union, however, and the only reason i have it is that i think it's cool to have the scotland flag on top (though i would rather scotland were independant - ie. no st george's cross at all)
i think the majority of northern irelanders want to remain part of the UK - at the most recent election the republican parties were decimated by the polls - but the IRA isn't just about northern ireland, i think it's got a lot to do with stuff that happened in southern ireland in the past involving the british army and stuff.

Usually before posting an avatar, I check the full size of the image. If it's too big, I resize it in my photo editing program first and then put it up. It isn't always required, but it's good for clarity. And so, London was rocked by terror attacks... (we keep going off topic lol)
