Does anyone around here have a favorite bird? I cannot think of one that I may favor and there are many which I feel are very beautiful, but I haven’t a clue as to what their names are. However I do have a book that lists the many attributes of many different types of birds. (Simon & Schuster’s Guide to Pet Birds by Mathew M. Vriends)
I like birds that talk, sing, and are painted with a variety of colors (tropical?). When I was smaller, I always grew up with one blue parakeet and one yellow canary. We had an enclosed porch with windows and so we let them loose. We also had an apple tree, and we took a branch and placed it in their open cage. I liked the fact that they had such freedom.
Besides the fact that they were cute birds, I don’t know if they would be my favorite type.

Chickadee's are hands down my favorite bird, I adore these little creatures. Everytime I go to fill up my brid feeder as soon as I walk outside with the birdfeed I will hear one cry "chick-a dee-dee-dee" and about 7 or 8 will come flying over to the tree, as I fill up the feeder they are dancing around jumping from branch to branch and chirping away as if to say "c'mon susanne hurry up we're hungry". I love the fact that these tiny little birds are resourceful enough to survive our winters and how trusting they can be, I remember one I spilt some seeds on the ground as I was filling up the feeder, one by one they flew down to the ground hopped over by my feet grabbed some seed and flew back to the tree to reap the rewards so to speak..most birds won't even come into the yard until I go back in the house..

Wow, that must be interesting to have birds like that be so close. I haven't had that experience.

I keep a Purple Martin house in my yard... but so far this year I haven't seen any. Could still be too early/cold... I don't know much about them but they are a beautiful black/purple.
