...then it was the pan it was made from. Now, we have a different seller, who claims this statue may have at one point bled from it's heart. Behold, ebay's finest... ;D I wouldn't buy it. I could clearly be a natural discoloration of the wood or something explainable. From the advertisement: Just a quick question. How could a random olive tree have any significnce to this piece? What if the tree had absolutely no relation to Jesus but the symbolism in the bible? I ahve the feeling that at least one of those bidders just want the piece becuase it was made in Israel and it may be appealing to them, and not necessarily because it may have bled.

Olive trees do have an important part in biblical symbolism. The most famous, if I remember right, is that, in the last days, there will appear two olive trees of magnificent splendour. Or something along those lines. On a possibly more relevant note, the piece was probably designed to appear to have bled from the heart. The finish on the material can be thickened in certain areas to produce such an effect.

I'm with you Amalcas. And having a sticker on something doesn't necessarily make it "Hand carved in the Holy Land".
There is a verse in Revelation (11:4) that mentions "the two olive trees" that are prophesied in Zechariah 4. They are the two witnesses of Revelation. But the more immediate significance of the olive tree for Christians is it's use in Romans 11 to symbolize the Church.

I still think the "bleeding" section was a coincidence or something. I don't think it was intentional.

Eh, if someone pays more than two bucks for this I'll be really interested.

Well, I mean, like I said, they could genuinely like the piece, the way it was made...you know...the artwork.
