What is it that really ticks you off or sets you off? For me it's a million things, from the things people do to take advantage of you, to others' insensitivities (that really bugs me), to simple stupidity. I've also noticed how people would accuse you of having a bad trait when they seem to be no different and/or have the inability to look at themselves. Anybody else?

Practically nothing. Only when my door is open, for some odd reason (methinks I like me privacy) and, if its overdone, using generalizations as a method of intellectualizing (rationally perceiving -- not going insane, really) reality.
EDIT: People not admitting what they are. I don't mean hypocrisy, but not admitting to your true nature. Hyprocrisy is a big problem, so I'm largely insensitive to it. I can respect someone who admits that they are a hypocrite (as long as it is understood they are trying not to be). But I can't respect someone who won't. I don't mean never admitting you are wrong.....not even never admitting you have done wrong. Its a mix of all three: Hypocrisy, not admitting wrong, and not admitting wrongdoing.

having lived with a complete slob for the last year i could go on for days about how he drives me insane (there's 3 of us and 2 of us really hate living with this guy, so we told him the other day that we're gonna look for somewhere else for the next year at uni and he can't come with us - he took it relatively well ...) anyway, i won't i'll go on about some general things that annoy me ... english sports commentators - if it's a scot doing well then it's a victory for britain, if it's a scot doing badly then it's a disaster for scotland; similarly, if it's an englishman doing well then it's a victory for england, and if it's an englishman doing badly then it's a sad day for britain (sounds like nothing, but believe me, they do it all the time, and it's not just me that it drives insane). i could give a specific example but i won't bother, cos it involves football and i've been trying to cut down on how much i talk about scottish football as for characteristic traits, i absolutely loathe seeing people being manipulated, it makes me totally sick. another thing which makes me sick is people not appreciating what they already have and not making the most out of it - like sports stars who don't try their hardest for the team when any fan sitting in the stadium would give their right arm to be given the same chance. i'm a bit of a hypocrite here, i suppose, because i could try harder at uni (i'm sure there are many people my age who were rejected from uni that would love to be in my position). it annoys me when people are unable to laugh at themselves, like they can't take a joke and they take it really serious if you're just having a laugh and take the piss out of them with your mates. i'm not talking about bullying, which is utterly dispicable, but a lot of scottish humour is sarcastic, and if you can't take it then what's the point? it just spoils it for everyone ...

I have lots because I'm just easily annoyed...
People who chew with their mouth open; people who don't wash their hands after using the washroom, sneezing or blowing their nose; people who use excessive 'ghetto-speak' on message boards and websites; teenyboppers; popculture; people who talk after I tell them to shut the **** up; reptitive noises; beeping, ringing or high-pitched noises; people who don't listen; stupid people; close-minded people; slow internet; dial-up; when things don't go my way; insects; when the sun reflects off of other peoples' cars when you're driving behind them; excessive sun-light; the wwf (wrestling); most English-dubbed Japanese anime; most video games; loud neighbours; being itchy; housework; getting up early; having excessively greasy hair or skin; dry skin; bad hair days; when there's nothing in the house to eat; evil house-hold appliances that have a pact with Satan to destroy me...I could go on and on, but you get the point. ;D

Oh yes. That sets me off. I have that sarcastic humor as well with people but once I was told people don't know when I'm joking around. lol The not washing the hands thing...I'm with Tiger. How long does it take to wash hands? Not even a minute. Chewing with their mouth open...when I was smaller, I'd beat my cousin up over that.

This is exactly opposite of what annoys me, if you didn't understand my addendum. Hehe....guilty as charged for talking with my mouth full. Generally I only talk with a bite, though, and tuck it into the corner of my mouth, so you can't notice (not polite, but I will get half way there, at least). ;D

yeah, i saw what you wrote, almalcas, and i agree with you. you're not excused for talking with your mouth full though whenever someone's talking with their mouth full in front of me (eg. my mum at the dinner table) i always make a point of taking my time to swallow my food before answering anything they might have asked me.

When people can't appreciate good music, or think just because something is classic and old, that automatically means it's geeky to listen to it. I can go to Evanesence to Elton John to the Beatles in 20 minutes(or Opera or anything else, I will listen to just about anything ) and for that I get called geeky. A lot of kids complain of other friends taking their music, my parents took my music LOL!. The idea that just because you might be over 20, means you oughta be killing yourself to get married. No thanks. The idea that if you don't have a boyfriend , that must means you're to be pittied. I wish that girls didn't have that constant worry, while I was try to learn in school, and now that I'm , ahem, a bit older, I enjoy being independent. Also, the idea that you arent' actively dating, does not mean you might be a lesbian. I'm tired of that , get over it. Some of us just have the patience to find ourselves and wait for a person to come along. When you wait a long time to see a movie, and then everyone around you brings their children, talks on their cellphone, kicks your seat, and then expects you to put up with it. Same with going to a fancy restaurant, same with concerts... HIRE A BABYSITTER, HAVE SOME COMMON MANNERS!! Mothers and Fathers that spoil their children openly in public when their kid quite possibly is warranting a good scolding instead. LOL don't worry, there's more! I'll just have to think of it.

I have that sarcastic humor as well with people but once I was told people don't know when I'm joking around. I just saw that, and it reminded me of my math teacher. He loves sarcasm, and, for a few weeks, scared us witless, because you can't tell if he is being sarcastic (he uses the same monotone continuously). An actual conversation between him and me: Teacher [to class]: We will be having a test today, class. Me: Oh, I get it, you're being sarcastic or something! Teacher: No, we really have a test today. Me: [agitated] Aaaaaaaarg! He's a really good teacher (minus the fact that he appears to be minorly dyslexic -- figure that with a math teacher), but sometimes he can be unnerving.

i had an absolute nightmare of a teacher for 2 years when i was in school. it was for "technology", which basically involved making stuff with technique lego. my final project was a lego lift (ie. an elevator) controlled by a computer program which went to 3 different levels. you could queue up what floors it took you to and it went there in order as well (as a real lift does) - it was pretty good, if you don't mind me bragging ;D anyway, the teacher himself was one of the worst teachers i've ever had. he was sarcastic all the time, but he was also one of those who can never laugh at himself ... here's an actual scenario that i will never forget ... teacher: so what sort of sensors can we use for this burglar alarm? pupil (not me): what about lasers to detect when they're coming? teacher: oh yeah (cue sarcasm) lasers to chop their arms and legs off, very good! (pupil looks embarrassed and dejected, well done teacher) other pupil: what about light sensors? teacher: yes, that would work, with sort of, um, laser ... beams ... to detect when they're coming ... (a momentary stutter before he carries on as if he owns the world) darning snatch <- nice censorship, by the way
