Don't know where this threa is supposed to be, health or family and relationships?
Recently I spoke to someone who admitted to me that she and her friend cut herself. I asked her why and she told me that it's because she's been through so much crap (which I know) and that for some reason when she gets emotionally upset, her body feels numb to any sort of physical pain. So it's something she does. She is bipolar and has problems with depression. Thoughts?

Meh....I guess I'm too realistic to do it. Some people have a little voice in the back of their head telling them to burn stuff -- I've got a little voice telling me what will happen if I do. An out of place bit of humor: "Stop poking me with your pencil! My mom will think I have been cutting!" I know the whole numbness thing, though.....however, I taught myself how to do that. So I have a different set of problems to deal with.....lets just say that "Those who have waken and seen the sleeping cannot dream again, for they have seen the horror of the dreams, and they know them now to be nightmares."

One of the points made on that site is that they say it may be a survival strategy. How does one figure?

I guess to release self-harming (suicidal) tension slowly, instead of all at once.
