Hmm... I'm cheap. I'd go in Toys R Us and play the system for a while and see if I like it. Then I'll go over someone's house who was brave enough to buy it and then play. And if I like it, then I wait for the price to go down. ;D

i know what you mean, i haven't had a games console since the sega mega-drive (you'd probably know it better as the sega genesis) and that lasted for a good 7 or 8 years. i remember playing the first john madden football on it (which was released in 1990) and one of the last games i got for it was fifa soccer 97 (released in 1997 obviously) and we still played it for a long time after that. these days consoles seem to become obsolete after only a couple of years and the new ones are so expensive i couldn't see myself getting one. if one of my friends got one i'd happily play it with them, though

I remember that game! That was a fun game. (Although I don't like sports, I love playing them on console...weird, I know).
I know it's off topic and all, but my favorite videogame times was surely withthe Sega and NES. I actually didn't play SNES until later in life.
Sonic the Hedgehog was cool. And of course the attatchable Knuckles game. I loved that. How'd they do that?

yeah, that was cool.
remember the mega-CD? it was basically a CD-player that you could attach to the console and it could play 32-bit games (rather than the mega-drive which was 16-bit). quite impressive considering that's the same power as a playstation but i guess it didn't really catch on.
i'm surprised the mega-drive and the snes both caught on so well considering they were practically the same machines - both were 16-bit consoles and both used cartridges to read the games off. at least the playstation/n64 was more of a battle (playstation used CDs and was 32 bit, n64 was 64 bit and used cartidges and was the first to have an analogue stick).
did anyone ever play the sega dreamcast? that didn't seem to catch on too well in the UK. neither did the playstation 2 or the gamecube, particularly compared to the X-box. the gamecube is the most powerful out of all that lot and had some really cool games but the x-box seems to have been the best choice.
that's another thing that pisses me off about consoles - how do you know that the newest console won't be a complete flop? there's some special things about each of the new consoles coming out (playstation 3, x-box 360, and the new nintendo one which will come out a bit later than the other 2) but how are you supposed to know which one will be best since the most powerful one isn't always the most fun?
it's not like computers where everything works on anything provided it's powerful enough ... not that i'm saying PCs are better than consoles, they each have their own peculiarities (eg. if you buy a game for a console you'll know that it'll work perfectly on your machine unlike with PCs you might have to turn some of the graphics settings down to get it to run smoothly - also platform games don't seem to work so well on the PC compared to consoles, but strategy and management games are usually a lot better on PC ... also mmorpgs, first person shooters to an extent and generally anything that is best controlled with a mouse)

No. Remember Sega Chanell? ;D Nope. I warned everyone it was going to flop and they didn't wanna listen. lol That's quite interesting. Over here, PS2 was the choice for a while. Then Xbox. Nobody had faith in the Gamecube (except me) b/c they thought the games for that system were mostly kiddie. I agree, but the "bad" ones they have are pretty good, like the Resident Evil series, Prince of Persia series and Eternal Darkness (although it sux there was no GTA or Final Fantasy ). I have the Gameboy hook-up for my Gamecube and I thought that was good to seeing as my brother had all the gameboy games. And if the battery was out for the attatchable light, we had the TV screen to use. ;D Game line-up. Gotta figure out who feels like making what games for which console. Yeah, like Starcraft, Warcraft and Diablo from Blizzard. ;D

resident evil for the gamecube? cool i've only played mario cart and zelda on the gamecube, both of them were great fun, very playable and had awesome graphics (noticably better than the ps2 and x-box - well, zelda at least, can't really remember the graphics on mario cart ). ps2 was the choice for a while over here too, but then then x-box started to catch on and eventually overtook it. x-box live seems to have caught on a bit better than the playstation equivalent (if there even is one). i've also heard people complain about the gamecube games being a bit kiddie (like spiro the magic dragon ... ) but hey, if it's fun then it's fun i've never heard of the sega chanell, what was that like? time for a little search on google ...

ok, after a little bit of research - are you talking about a completely separate console, or the "sega channel" which went out over a few US cable tv networks which allowed you to download games to play on your genesis (for a small price)?
there was definitely nothing like that in the UK and i can't remember a sega console between the mega-cd and the dreamcast ...

Yup. My cousin and I would play videogames from like, 7 in the morning to about 12 in the afternoon. (We were being babysat and grandma wanted to watch soap operas and there was only one TV). Sometimes we'd turn down the volume on the videogame and turn up some relaxing music like TLC. It may seem weird, but you should try it to games like Mario for SNES or Sonic for Sega.
