What do you think of tv and radio stations that have it's audience geared towards a particular culture? For example, I know there are stations for Hispanic or Spanish people. And then you have stations like BET (Black Entertainment Television) which is geared towards the African American audience.

Well I've always wanted to watch the soap opera's that come on the spanish stations, they don't last very long, maybe a few months...
I didn't really make good grades in spanish..mainly because what you're taught in class is the formal spanish and most people who speak it down here use a lot of slang to go along with it.
We have several spanish tv stations , sometimes I just watch them to figure out what they're saying. We have one urban station-I really haven't tuned into it just be cause the reception for it stinks.

in the UK we have Zee TV which is for chinese people, i think. it's subscription only and i've never known anyone who has it. we also have a radio channel for asian people (cunningly titled "BBC Asia" i think) since there are a lot of asians living in the UK. you can only get that on digital tv and radio or online, however, and even though i could listen to it if i wanted i've never bothered

The only cultural station that we get (that I know of) is Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN). I watch it every now and then when something catches my interest. -- As much as I despise ethnic segregation and what have you, I still think it's great that we can recognize the different ethnic groups and that there is something out there geared toward each of them. And the great thing about a television station is that even if you aren't Aboriginal or African American or whatever, you aren't exluded and can still enjoy what they have to offer.

Yeah, at first I thought of how it may be segregational, but then I realized that having these stations give people the chance to express themselves culturally. I think it's a good thing. And I've always wondered if there were Asian stations. Now I know. Asians always seemed to be left out over here in the States, you rarely see them in comercials or everyday shows except for karate movies. And Indian (India) people... I can't remember ever seeing one on television. So I do think that TV is still biased.

But on the other hand Tara, a lot of movies from India are becoming popular over here too, so maybe sooner than later they'll have a station.
I would love to have a foreign film channel..I love foreign films. Yeah, they might take a bit more concentration to watch, but often I enjoy them more.

It must be the mystery of not knowing what they're saying. B/c I find that I also enjoy music more when I don't understand word for word what's going on. (However, I'd at least like to know the general message, you know?)
I heard there is a world music dance station, but I have no idea when it comes to the name of it.
