Suit: Residents harassed into Bible studyResidents of a Westmont public housing complex for seniors said in a federal lawsuit filed Monday that they were coerced and harassed by management into practicing Christianity and pressured to attend Bible study classes. ( continue) Man, you just don't do that to old people. I can't imagine old folks crouching down on the hard tile floors hiding from religious ridiculousness. That's atrocious! What was so interesting about this was my recent dream of being forced to read the Bible. And it hapend a day after this story. lclicky for details..there were old folks in my dream... now thats crazy

IF the story is true, then it is MY OPINION that those in charge know little to nothing about Christianity and the teachings of the Christians Deity.
I imagine that the ACLU would have a field day with this case. Along with the AFA.

I have my doubts about whether there was truly force involved, though I don't doubt it was perceived that way. Chances are these folks just didn't want to say "no" and perhaps feared that they would lose their housing if they objected.
I'd really like to know if there was an honest discussion between the parties before they took it to the lawyers.

That's a good question. Perhaps they simply didn't want to talk to the Bible study people head on. Perhaps they really were scared.

I feel for them... they probably don't have families they could go to. The folks in the nursing home I visit use their relatives to complain to staff when they think something's really being done wrong.

I think it's sad that many of us have been brought up in a culture that gives little acknowledgement and care for older people.

Chances are these folks just didn't want to say "no" and perhaps feared that they would lose their housing if they objected. I think that's the problem. A lot of elderly folks may feel intimidated by us youngsters, especially if they can't or have difficulty doing the basic things for themselves. They may feel 'set aside,' worthless and thus fearful, and it's our fault. Like Tara said, our culture does not look too kindly upon the elderly. If they feel set aside, it's because we've set them aside; thrown them on the back burner [with little care], so to speak. It's disheartening.

It shows a real lack of respect.
