For the U.S. folk (and anyone who cares to join) now that it seems the right-winged, the openly religious and the Republicans are in power how do you like how things are running in our country? Do you think our country has changed for the better, worse, or remained the same within the last ten years? Any other things you'd like to address concerning U.S. politics?

Personally (and I hope I don't offend anyone) I can't stand the president! I always tell people that I didn't vote for him, so it's not my fault we're stuck with him.
I think one of my biggest concerns with Bush is that he's a fundamentalist, which has pretty much destroyed seperation of church and state. I get the feeling that he wants everyone in America to believe exactly as he does, (for example, about stem cell research) even though not everyone is a fundamentalist, or even the same religion.

Thanks for sharing Ophelia. Does anyone else have anything to add? Any thoughts on the employment situations, gas prices, are we more divided or closer than before, etc.?

These days everything seems to be polemic. It makes it much harder to have meaningful discussions to get at solutions.
But employment is improving, I think. I don't know about the gas prices... they are still way high to me. But I know we're spoiled compared to Europe.

I think a lot of the problem is that the news doesn't care to report the real stuff, they are more like a tabloid. We've got to where we're so lazy here in America we don't hold people accountable for their own actions anymore. I was with my grandfather this week, I love him so, but boy he has that Fox News Channel on all of the time. ICK ICK ICK!
I wish we could get the so called christian right out of here. They aren't a good voice for christianity in the least and they're giving us a bad name.
Personally I wish the right would get more educated about stem cell research, they're all worried about eggs that will never get used and thrown away. Next they'll say all eggs have to be fertilized against everyone's will, more than likely(because oh no they're going to be thrown out). I think that has to be a private agreement between patients as to what happens to their eggs. If they ok for those eggs to go to research then the government can take it's big butt out of it.
But they can use all sorts of stem cells, not just eggs, right? I thought I heard they can use cord blood too.
