It's just a flag-but that flag stood for a very troubled time, and to some people it greatly upsets them, for good reasons. I could understand someone being very upset by it and that the school thought that someone might start something with her over it.
I'll admit, the design on it is interesting, and that she made it herself. I live in the South and a lot of people have that flag around. I don't like that time period, in the least, for a lot of reasons. A lot of families seperated in that war, brother fighting against brother. (or in my own family tree, it's cousin against cousin)Yes, it may very well be her heritage, but I think it's a sad thing to me, not a good thing. It's a time when people were finally set free, even if they wouldn't get treated as equals for a hundred years or so, and that just isn't right in my mind. For what that time period stood for, for all that blood shed, I wouldn't wear that dress, and I certainly would have thought twice. If she really wanted the flag on her dress, she could have done the flags of our country or something.
I don't agree with the young lady in the least, she may have the right to wear it. But having the right to do something doesnt' always mean that you should do it.

I don't think she should have worn it knowing how people feel about it today, especially in the area in which she lives. Some would liken this situation to wearing a swastika dress and ask if that would be offensive seeing as it was once a good symbol that was adopted by people with bad intentions. Who knows? The point is, it's still a controversial symbol.
