What is black Irish? One person told me that it is an Irish person with black hair. Another thing I saw yesterday when I was looking up myths and legends was this. does anyone have the real deal? What the hell is a black Irish?

What on God's green earth is that? I've never heard of it-I wonder if Little Pea might know... I mean, it would be interesting if Black people did play a part in the history in Ireland, but...how probable is it? I mean, it could be..hmmmmmmmmmm

hmmm ... i don't really know ... i read some of that link and it was about spanish-irish people being known as black irish? the thing about irish being known as "white negroes" and black people being known as "smoked irish" - i remember hearing that pubs and shops in england in those days used to have signs in the window saying "no blacks, no irish, no dogs". and the thing about catholic irish describing the protestant irish as "black irish" - as if they're not really irish because they support british ruling Northern Ireland ... well, that conflict is still going on in Northern Ireland (and scottish football ... ) as for actual black people in Ireland, well, there aren't very many (and there aren't many in Scotland either). you can even see this in the sports teams that represent the countries. Scotland has one black player in their national football side at the moment ( nigel quashie) and he's only the 2nd black player in history to represent scotland at football (the last was in the 1890s) and Ireland has only 1 or 2 as well ... i've never really thought about the phrase "black irish" before, and although that link focuses on the spanish connection, that is very uncommon (as it says in the link itself, "The third usage of the expression "Black Irish" is far rarer and has yet to be found per se in print"). i guess that person who told you it's an irish person with black hair might have been referring to the spanish-irish thing, i dunno. have you heard of the irish pop band, "the corrs"? they certainly look kind of spanish ... perhaps they are the "black irish" that the article is talking about?

Yes, I've heard of them..wasn't one of their songs "breathless"? That was the one song that was big over here.
One of the girls showed up in the musical film Evita..she has a very nice voice.
