I was moved the other night by the views of a Catholic nun. She discussed religion's role in the re-election of Bush. I liked her views on the freedom of religious choice and how we should not impose religion onto other people. She discussed abortion and the war. She made a point asking how anti-abortionists can be pro-life when they would support a war that could very well be killing pregnant women and small children. She says this is not pro-life, but pro-birth. I found that a very interesting stance. And she discussed the Sermon on the Mount (Mathew 5, 6 & 7) and how Jesus said to pay attention to the poor. She also felt that because we are using religion to try to steer the country, we are no different than bin Laden's reasons to go to war. Indeed, if this is true, this must be a holy war...

See what I mean? Religious or not, I don't know how you could condone this current government.
I think it is a holy war in some ways. That Ann Coulter person said we should go and convert people over there in the middle east to Christianity. Or rather, it's a war over who can pee the farthest.
As for the abortion stand point, I don't know what to say on that. I cannot stand partial birth abortions, they're horrific. I can't stand abortion period. But I can't stand a child going without something to eat, being abused, neglected, some how. Nor would I want someone to be a mother before her time.
I won't force someone not to have one, if they really want to have an abortion. It doesn't have to be that way though, there are choices you could make to prevent that, especially with the morning after pill, especially with all the birth control out there.

I too think abortion is probably not the greatest thing to think about, but what if the pregancy was endangering the life of the mother, you know?
Does anyone else have any thoughts on the matter? Did the nun piss you off, make any good points, etc.?

I think that abortion, late-term or "partial birth" abortions included, should only be allowed in cases where the birth could and most likely will endanger the life of the mother, and then, it should be completely up to her. Abortion in any other case is more or less equivalent to murder. Allowing women to abort the child in cases where the mother's life is endangered is somewhat related to killing someone is self-defense. Abortion should be rare, safe, and legal. I believe strongly that if it were made illegal, many women would still seek abortions illegally. These abortions would not be able to be regulated for safety, thus, the life of mother and child could be needlessly endangered.
