More like tommorow, but nonetheless... Student Loan Consolidation Deadline This WeekFederal College Loans Need to be Locked in Before Higher Interest Rates Arriveby Bob Jamieson June 28, 2006 — Friday is the deadline for current and former college students to consolidate their federally guaranteed loans and lock in new fixed interest rates that, starting Saturday, will rise as high as 7 percent.
Under the mandated change, Stafford loans, the loans most commonly used by students, will no longer come with an adjustable rate, which means a farewell to the long era of low interest rates. ( continue) Thoughts? I already did mine.

sheesh, unlucky for some ... of course everything's much better in scotland - no tuition fees, you just have to arrange your own accomodation (or pay to live in uni accomodation). student loans are available and the interest rate is so low it's basically free money, though it's designed to give people from unpriveliged backgrounds more money than people from middle-class backgrounds (since it's government funded loans and some need it more than others). you also only have to repay it after you start earning £25,000 per year. scotland's always been good for education ... now if only we could sort out those teen pregnancy, unemployment, heroin addiction and sectarian violence problems we'd be sorted
