I just watched The Rosa Parks Story the other day. I thought it was beautifully done and everything. I just love Angela Bassett's acting. She's awesome. On the dvd there were features such as a timeline and filmography of some of the actors. When I went through the timeline, I was just thinking of how such stories such as Rosa Parks bus incident and her struggle to register to vote wasn't even that long ago. I mean, a lot of these civil rights struggles were happening during the 60s. Those seemed to have been very hard times with people with very strong feelings. I mean, the events that happend barely happend 30 years ago. Just looking through the timeline and simply reviewing the little we do learn in school, I was better able to understand how people can still have such strong feelings and tensions with racial issues here in the states. The last thing I remember on the timeline was the Rodney King incident. That was a little bit over 10 years ago alone. The residues of oppresssion just don't go away just because the segregation signs do. I just felt like sharing some thoughts.
