it is no more wrong for the USA to do it than it is for any other country. I never said it was, but if the US is committing the same "sin" that most other nations are why would we be singled out and attacked for it? If we where alone in the offense than fine our bad, but we are not so we should not be treated as though we are. "it is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt" - my dad always says that and i dunno where he heard it or whether i'm misquoting him or the original author, but it is kind of appropriate here. also the well known "practice what you preach". other countries might deny certain events in their past and they are just as wrong to do that as the USA, but they don't go barging into other countries under the banner of peace and democracy. it is only right that the preacher should be judged harsher than his congregation (even the bible says that). if you minded your own business rather than attempt to police the world then people would not hate you so much and wouldn't be so keen to point out your flaws. america presents itself as being the best nation in the world but in fact it is just as bad, and in many ways a lot worse, than any other country - when america goes around parading this delusion, you must expect other people to turn around and bring you all back down to earth. "you can't have your cake and eat it too" (i've never properly understood that proverb, but i'm sure you know what it means).

We do stink our nose into other nations a far bit. This is a habit we developed at the request of other nations. I'm all for taking some time off myself.

My problem is with those who want to blame me personally for every little thing that the USA has ever done.
Especially when it concerns things that I do not aggree with or condone. This fiasco in Iraq is a prime example.

yeah, i don't condone that either, but so far i've been saying why i think people hate america, not you personally. i don't like the way england and english people tend to look down on the scots, they steal our oil and they leave us to rot - if we hadn't put up with it for so long it would be easier to call it oppression - but i don't hold it against individual english people. for instance, i don't hate cenk for being english, though he does display the typical snobbery and arrogance that makes me glad i'm not english myself lest i be tarred with the same brush (is that the right phrase?). i don't hold anything i've mentioned in this topic against any of you individually (for all i know i could be the fattest member of the board ), but cenk lists his reasons for why he thinks people hate america, i'm saying why i think europeans hate america. most europeans won't know about most of the things cenk has listed (though they may have a vague impression that America is responsible for many bad things) but they will say that american culture is dispicable in many ways, some of which i have mentioned.

Most Americans are unaware of the many things that cenk listed. In fact, there are a few things that cenk listed in which America had help with. There are a few things that cenk has to do some serious hair splitting to pin on the USA.
In the thread that was deleted cenk even went so far as to make the absurd claim that I am personally to blame. Talk about making great leaps of faith...

My only complaint is that it takes so long for threads to load with so many images embedded. It would be helpful if just a couple of them could be embedded and the rest linked. The only way I found around this load up time problem is to turn off images in your profile. However, it turns off ALL the images. Perhaps someone who knows a lot more about it could set it up so that members can turn the images off on a thread by thread basis?

Actually, now that we're off page 1 it loads quickly if you click directly onto page 3.

Thanks for the links. I suppose as Polly's tag line tells us passion rules reason. So I don't think there will come a wholly objective decision about what is to be taught in the classroom any time soon.

I have no problems teaching religion in school. Just as long as they are not trying to call it science.

I had to do my own research after my father, who was there, told me a few things that I thought he was making up. Like the fact that the USA was paying the Vietcong to not attack supply trucks along a certain stretch of road. Interesting can you tell us as much as you know about what the U.S government conveniently "forgets" to tell us. What we dont learn in school? I don't know about there in london and my schooling was through DoDDS for the most part, but they did a serious skip job on Vietnam and JFK. these are the two that ticked me off the most.

"you can't have your cake and eat it too" Why not? Others have done just that and are even encouraged to continue. Which only furthers my point about the double standards. It was ok until I started giving it right back.

what are you talking about? america is the one rampaging across the globe to impose its values on other nations, but you can't expect everyone to welcome you with open arms. people hate america because they present themselves as being the best nation in the world but in fact they're no better than any other nation. you have your flaws just like any other nation yet when people point out this fact you think you are being victimised - get real, you can't have it all your own way.
there is no higher authority in international relations, it's like a school playground with no teachers around and america is the big bully - no wonder everyone hates him.

Well ok. I see this is a little bit of a touchy subject for you.
Since I was talking about this forum, not the whole bloody planet...
