An interesting thought. How come in the sports illustrated magazines, there are a lot of swimsuit editions, competitions or whatever, but there are no such magazines that would appeal to women like that. It seems magazines geared towards women also show beautiful women. I guess GQ (Gentlemen's Quarterly) is the only option... and that's for men! lol
Thoughts?
Would you say it might have to do with the fact that many men hold a lot of influential businesses that might sell these magazines or what?

It has to do with what sells. If a magazine does not sell it will cease to exist.
Bare in mind (pun intended) that this is only my thoughts prior to any research in the matter.

there have been magazines in the past geared towards women showing outrageously proportioned men wearing skimpy clothing, but they don't sell, hence they cease to exist (as polytheist rightly pointed out).
it's like, women would rather read erotic literature or participate in cyber sex than look up porn.

it's like, women would rather read erotic literature or participate in cyber sex than look up porn. Which women? A lot of women I know are very interested in that stuff. (Oh the conversations a Scorpio can get you into. ;D ) ...maybe they're bi. Who knows?

Yeah if there is something like that out there it's usually geared towards gay men....*sigh* well except perhaps playgirl, but thats porn not everybody is comfortable with that, I have no problem with it but what about for those women who do and why is there only one? ? Hmmm just read what littlepea said, perhaps that was the problem a lot of woman don't really like really big muscular guys, I know I don't. I'd rather men that look a bit more normal....

one of my friends (a girl) likes ugly men, for some reason ... another likes slightly "portly" men (ie. men with a belly, but not excessively fat men). men on the other hand like anything curvy. i know i do interested in what stuff, tara? porn, erotic literature or cyber sex? if the latter then give her my e-mail address ;D (that was a joke, by the way, don't actually give her my e-mail ... )

I think when we're teens we get those teen beats and all that sort of things pushed at us...well do they even have those anymore...I don't even know. I used to get them. I think women generally go for the whole people, cosmo, that kind of thing when it comes to magazines. And bleh on that...one of these days I hope we get a magazine that features models that actually eat something. lol cyber sex? All I can think of when you mention that is that scene in that movie "closer" with Jude Law and Clive Owen where they're on the computer and Jude Law poses as Julia Roberts online wanting cybersex. It was so funny I almost died. Disturbing, but funny. Actually, that whole movie is disturbing. LOL Eh some romance authors are ok, once you get an author you like. Romantic comedies can be fun too....I saw that movie "Just like heaven" last weekend...oh it was cute. I think girls are a hard sell...we're not just diamonds, flowers, and chocolates.. and that's not even in the territory of sex. Luckily we're not of the generations of before were we weren't brought up not to talk about it or to be ashamed of it.

lol that sort of thing just makes me uncomfortable, porn does..it just does does. I don't know whether to laugh or what. You'd have to understand my intro to it. LMAO One time over at a friends we were searching for a tape of her brother's first birthday that had lost it's label...and stumbled across something else. She had had an uncle that had stayed over one year because he hadn't a place to live and had apparently left a few of his tapes too..oooh was that embarassing...I thought..while going through blank tapes..we're going to find a cute baby with his face smeared with cake..oooooooh no. Ooh..no.. Between dying of embarassment and laughter. I'm telling you. Guys and girls just work different.

lol...poor Pandora. Yes, Cosmo Girl, People's, Seventeen and the likes are still seen in the rooms of many girls I know. I personally never subscribed to those things and in a way, I'm glad a didn't. Those magazines definately don't accurately portray the beautiful people in the U.S. b/c not all beautiful people are tall, need globs of makeup and are white. I don't know how many of you watch E!. I do every once in a while and they had one special about catching stars without their makeup on. They look atrocious! Even the woman who is the reporter looks pretty decent on a regular basis, but she went on the set without any makeup on and she looked like she aged about 10 years. I know this girl at school who is a big fan of Paris Hilton. She really is the rich spoiled brat, so I guess that was the best example she could relate to. Anyway, when I first met her, I was shocked. Why? It wasn't the clothing. She's not always provocative. It was actually the makeup. I onl yknow what her skin color might be because she's walked in the hall a few times without her makeup on. But seriously, you can see it from far away that she cakes it on. She's spent well over 10 minutes one time putting makeup on. It was actually interesting to watch her. lol But I still like her. B/c other than the fact that she puts on pounds of make up, has a million and one pink fluffy and fuzzy things and Paris Hilton is her idol, she's a very nice girl.

Oh women's magazines are just awful. Granted I've not looked at many men's magazines, but I haven't noticed them killing themselves over time to make women happy. No offense, I know men are easier to please when it comes to sex-but it seems that women's magazines focus more on getting your men happier in bed than women. Just saying. And then you have the classic "can this marriage be saved" blah blah. I'm not saying that it's not women's issues.. I'm saying we're very slow to come out of the same ruts that were put in place by society, and even by men. (not that I blame men now for it at all, but whew, some of that stuff would make you want to hurt somebody) At the same time those modeling ads..I don't take those models at face value...who knows what their doing to stay at that weight in the first place. Shopping isn't something I take interest in, so I don't notice ads that much.. however.. I do like this one catalogue and think you might too, www.Midnight Velvet. Mom and I have ordered from them several times. It's a unique catalogue. Ugh. Paris Hilton. Ugh, and singers that really can't sing that got into the business because they know somebody. Ugh. I'm sorry..she's .....well..not a kind word for her. I don't know her and it's...not polite to judge, but I don't understand the fascination. LOl@makeup. I wish makeup looked that good when I wore it. Though I do know how to apply it, it never looks like that ad. then again it probably had some computer help lol. Yeah, we're all very white and all very very blonde too. We all want that same pefect shade of tan, or if we weren't "HORRORS!" born with blonde hair, we should rush to the hair dresser and put some highlights in it. We might not get a man. What would happen then? LOL.

FHM has tips on how to please your woman and lots of other articles that men might find interesting (eg. how to pick up women in bars with different methods for different types of girls ). i say that all men like curves, but that's not always true, some prefer blondes, others prefer brunettes, some prefer boobs, others prefer bum, some like curvy women, others like skinny women, and then there's all the different sorts of personalities too. i prefer curvy blondes, personally, though last year i was enfatuated with a skinny blonde and a curvy brunette (at the same time) so you never know ... most men i know want to please their woman, and most men i know wouldn't touch paris hilton with a 10 ft barge pole, so don't worry about her too much

Yeah, I know a few guys that don't think Paris Hilton is that great looking. Pandora, that Midnight Velvet site almost made me fall out of my seat. There was actually an African American woman on the front page. That's quite rare huh? *shakes head* pathetic. *browses around* There's even a few men's sections. It's very interesting, and I love the title. ;D The outfits are really nice... .... BUT DAMN!!! Look how much those things cost! When I see prices that high, I look to see if I can make it myself. lol Oh well, it's fun to fantasize on what you could have. I like this one, this one and a few others. I'd try to find a nice place to go just so I can wear one of those. You're right though, it is quite interesting, but I have a feeling it wouldn't appeal too much to the younger audience. They seem to like the glittery stuff and pants that barely fit. And you know what I think is gross, speaking of pants that barely fit? When guys wear their pants half way down their butts, showing their boxers, thinking they look cool. One time I saw someone with a hole in their boxers. lol I was this close to purposely embarassing him. ;D

Oh we just like looking at the catalogue, but we've ordered their jewelry for special occasions. Like as in, twice, but we just love looking. I thought you'd love looking at it though just to cheer you up. The figurines they have I like too.
Who started that trend that men need to show their boxers? Man it's unsexy! It's like plumbers crack!
