Wanna know something gross you guys? Yesterday I let my dog out. Normally I expect him back within a specific timeframe. Well, he was taking a little too long. So I went out to see what he was up to. He barking and making up all this noise by the door. So I was like, "Man, what the hell is he barking about now?" And I turn to look and just outside the door there he was barking at some snake. And not just any old snake, but this snake that usually comes up on the doorstep sometimes to get a nice sunbath (but I haven't seen it this year). I was all worried b/c I thought that my dog was going to get bit. But sure enough, my dog was pretty brave (or pretty stupid) and ended up killing the snake. My dog is barely a foot tall and he kills this thing that's like four feet long. ;D I tried to stop him, but he didn't listen. So when I thought it was safe to get involved, I brought him in the house (making sure not to get any of the snake blood all over me). I put him in the tub and gave him the bath of his life. My dog is crazy, but I expect that from a Jack Russell. All those times I was asking if he was a real dog, he managed to finally proved himself.

They are also twice as smart and 10 times as destructive.

We have a beautiful 8 year old Malamute that is as gentle as you could imagine......you can take a STEAK out of this dog's mouth and the only thing she would do is give you those big doe-eyes to plead for it back.
However, 2 years ago, a part of our fence got damaged in a storm. We didn't realize that it was possible for anything to get through there, but one night when we let her out into the back yard, 2 vicious pit bulls got into OUR yard and attacked her. We were in the living room when we heard the ruckus. My husband grabbed a pipewrench and ran outside to help our dog fight them off.
We were amazed that she had managed to give as good as she got from the two of them. When my husband started attacking one of them with the pipewrench, she held her own with the other one until both pit bulls decided they had enough and ran off back through the fence.
She was pretty hurt, and had to go to the animal hospital, but within a week the stitches were healing and she was back to her old self......and she is still the gentlest, sweetest thing you could ever want to know. It didn't make her mean in the slightest.
I am so thankful to have her.....she's my baby.

I can vouch for what teancum said. I knew since the day I brought my dog home and looked into his eyes that he is "human". Some people are frightened when their pets (or any sort of animal for that matter) show any qualities that are even remotely human. But I, on the other hand, am attracted to such qualities. It almost shows intelligence and sometimes stupidity at the same time. lol I also like to see the traits that show independence. I try not to underestimate the animals b/c in my exerpience, they seem to know a bit more than we are willing to admit. diana, the way a dachshund trips over its ears when it attempts to run is comical to me. Poly, did you mean kuhli loach? They seem interesting. calyr... malamutes. They are so much fun. #clap# #wild# At least the ones I've had experience with seem quite loving.

Yes I did mean kuhli. And yes they are interesting. In fact, I have been debating with myself whether or not to take the four ciclids to the local fish shop and get some more kuhli and a couple of mini crabs. My landlord does not allow for a fish tamk any larger than 30 gal. And the ciclids are starting to get to big for the tank being about five, four, three and three inches respectfully. Add to this a six inch pleco...

I was always a fan of angel fish and clown loach. And saw plecos as necessary but ugly as sin. Tara, everything about dachshunds is comical. I feel basically the same way about Jack Russells. What they lack in being funny looking, they make up for in being hyper-energetic. Oh, and both breeds are "jumpers" meaning they'll jump all over you if you let them. The difference being that a dachshund makes jumping look like a physical impossibility happening in spite of physics. ;D

I was thinking about getting a couple of green puffers. My sister has three and they are like having dogs that stay an aquarium. They beg for food, they pick up gravel from the bottopm and spit it out at the glass to get your attention. And they are just so darn cute!!
