Oh, that's really nice of you. How come you had to rescue so many chickens though? How did that come about?

The chickens were "liberated" (not by me) from a battery farm "somewhere " in the UK. They were very sick when they first came to us. Some could not walk. Most had breathing problems, anemia, worms and bald patches. They are now healthy, plump young girls who have started laying again. My rescue centre generally takes the animals that other sanctuaries refuse to take, so we end up with dogs and cats with behavioral/mental problems, old aggresive rabbits with tooth problems, old ponies and bored troublesome pigs. We take all sorts of animals - pets, farm animals, wild animals and birds, exotics - from anywhere in the UK, providing we have room. Most of them are rehomed in carefully vetted new homes. Some simply stay here forever. Hard work, but well worth it!

When my kids were little, we had a couple of gerbils. The pet store said they were both female. The pet store lied.
They had babies, a whole bunch of them. Then one day, after the babies were not quite full grown, I found a couple of tails in their cage, attached to a few remaining bones. Dad was eating the kids for dinner. It was positively gross! I took the whole bunch of them back to the pet store.

Did you cause a scene when you got there? Did you get your money back or anything? How'd it go?

not a farm, no. Its an animal rescue centre. That's what I'd like to have. I'd move out to the country or something and take in stray animals and whatnot. I love fuzzy lil critters. They make good foot-warmer-uppers in the winter. ;D

I agree, that would be cool to do. I love animals.
I have a Boxer, a Shepherd/Wolf mix, 4 cats, two ferrets, a canary and angel fish. (And I'm saving for a horse - and barn to put it in!) My animals bring me a lot of joy.

How do the dogs and cats get along? My Boxer, Buster, is an inside dog and gets along fine with everyone. They sleep together and groom each other. It's really sweet. The Shepherd/Wolf Mix, Bear, is primarily an outside dog, so when he comes in the cats are a little more leary of him and shy away. But what's even more funny is the way the ferrets harrass the other animals. They think the other animals are there for their personal amusement, especially the cats and want to play with them constantly. Two of my cats do anything possible to stay away from them, but the other two just jump right in and have a grand time!

Today is Jack's birthday. (I'll find time to change the age in that link) He's 4! I heard about this thing called "Dog Ice Cream Cake" or something like that. I hope it's not like...real ice cream or something. I was thinking it might be good for him to have. ;D But I wish to do my research first...

Awww.... lol I like fish too. You should put rocks at the bottom of the tank and put castles and boats and other cool things at the bottom so they can hide and swim through. When I was little, I had two pet fish, an Oscar named "Oscar" and a Paco named "Paco". (Original I know, lol) I'd go up to the fish and put the tip of my pointer finger on the tank and they'd "attack" and run right into the tank where my finger was. I don't know if they were playing around or if they really thought my finger was a worm or something, but they never did it with anyone else in the family.
