What are your thoughts on stigmata? What do you think it means? Is it really a sign from God or what?

The hand at the beginning of that article belongs to Padre Pio. He bore the stigmata for 50 years. It certainly is not superstition, though it is a mystery. It is a painful way of joining Christ (not to mention embarrassing, according to Padre Pio).

On one hand you're very afraid for these people especially because they lose a lot of blood, so they'd probably have to have a lot of medical treatment.(but the article said that it's even not their own blood? How do they keep from becoming ill from that?) I can't imagine what something like that would be like-I'm sure it would make any doctor tear out their hair, not to imagine what the person having the stigmata would go through..not that it's not a very deep connection with God..I'm not trying to say that.
Half of me believes it half of me doesn't..just because this is another thing that people like to make movies out of and all of that. Not a legit case ever in these movies, but something really really out of control and silly. I'm sure that must make the people who've actually gone through this upset.

I want to be able to see it on someone. In the crystallinks article, it spoke of how some people who've touched these people while they were in the middle of stigmata felt love emanating.
