(spelled it wrong in poll, can't do anything about it, sorry kidz)
The type of old superstitions I'm talking about are things like throwing salt over your shoulder, not walking under ladders, etc.

"If religious beliefs and opinions are found contrary to the standards of science they are mere superstitions and imaginations; for the antithesis of knowledge is ignorance, and the child of ignorance is superstition."
(Abdu'l-Baha, Baha'i World Faith - Abdu'l-Baha Section, p. 240)
Superstition is not evident within the Baha'i Faith.

Superstition is like witch craft isn't it? It's so strange how they are passed down from generation to generation.

Witchcraft? Hmm... interesting. I'll bring up a new thread in the paganism section.
Here is a definition from ww.dictionary.com
su·per·sti·tion (spr-stshn) n. An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome.
A belief, practice, or rite irrationally maintained by ignorance of the laws of nature or by faith in magic or chance. A fearful or abject state of mind resulting from such ignorance or irrationality. Idolatry.

I figured I wanted to post just a bunch of random superstitions and this thread was already discussing the stuff. Anyway, I found quite a few of them online on this iste I thought were intersting. See if you can find some out form older relatives who may have practiced or believed in these things. * To predict the sex of a baby: Suspend a wedding band held by a piece of thread over the palm of the pregnant girl. If the ring swings in an oval or circular motion the baby will be a girl. If the ring swings in a straight line the baby will be a boy. *If a bee enters your home, it's a sign that you will soon have a visitor. If you kill the bee, you will have bad luck, or the visitor will be unpleasant. *If you blow out all the candles on your birthday cake with the first puff you will get your wish. *A horseshoe, hung above the doorway, will bring good luck to a home. In most of Europe protective horseshoes are placed in a downward facing position, but in some parts of Ireland and Britain people believe that the shoes must be turned upward or "the luck will run out." *If you catch a falling leaf on the first day of autumn you will not catch a cold all winter. *If a mirror in the house falls and breaks by itself, someone in the house will die soon. *If you use the same pencil to take a test that you used for studying for the test, the pencil will remember the answers. So many strange ones I have never heard of before.
